The new airport in Beijing is a significant landmark project and a key focus of China’s 13th Five-Year Plan. As part of this project, the airport’s terminal building features an innovative sunshade-suspended ceiling made from aluminum expanded metal mesh.
The core area of the terminal building is fitted with 12,800 glass panels, with more than 8,000 of these comprising the roof. Each glass panel consists of four layers, with two glass layers on top and bottom and a hollow middle layer filled with aluminum expanded metal mesh. This design allows for ample natural light to penetrate the terminal while also preventing excessive heat from entering.

The sunshade suspended ceiling is supplied by AGICO, using over 8,000 different irregular and non-directional products to balance direct and refracted light. The use of specially treated aluminum expanded mesh as the main body and high-performance glass as the carrier provides seamless integration of the two materials, creating a new visual experience. The result is a unique and high-performance sunshade suspended ceiling that sets a new standard for the fusion of glass and expanded metal mesh in China and around the world.
